Razor Electric Scooter Mods and Accessories

If you’ve reached this page, I am pretty sure you are looking for accessories and ways to modify your Razor electric scooters.

Razor is a famous brand in the realm of electric scooters, but however famous and costly the scooter and its brand may be, there will be a time when you’ll have to make some upgrades to improve its performance. And I know you must be looking for various options for giving your scooter more power, better performance, and, well, yes, looks.

Recently, I modified my Razor E300 electric scooter by upgrading and changing a few components. If you have other models like the E100 and E200, don’t worry; these will work for those models as well. So, no more waiting around; let’s dive in!

Why Modify Your Electric Scooter?

So, to quickly understand this: as we grow, we experiment with our looks and bodies to change our appearance or our health. The same goes with electric scooters. While electric scooters are a convenient mode of transportation, they do need regular maintenance and changes to improve their looks, performance, and overall uniqueness, according to your preferences.

The most common issues you can probably encounter with this vehicle are its brakes, battery, and motor. When you modify and upgrade your electric scooter, you’ll be tweaking its acceleration, hill climbing assistance, speed, and safety, making your ride even smoother and more comfortable.

Common Parts To Upgrade Your Razor Electric Scooter

Making mods and basic upgrades to your electric scooter can drastically change how it performs. Even if your scooter is operating perfectly, replacing some components to a better version can allow you to push the limits of your vehicle and ride it at top speed. Check out some easy upgrades if you want your scooter to work like never before.

Battery

Battery

Batteries are clearly one of the main components of an electric scooter. But with constant riding, the battery power can decrease, eventually affecting the scooter’s speed and range. During my upgrading process, the battery was the first part I changed.

First, Razor E300 comes with two 12V rechargeable lead-acid batteries. While lead-acid batteries may be good in the short term, they are not long-lasting. So, I swapped these batteries for 18V lithium-ion ones.

Ryobi Lithium-Ion batteries are one of the best options for this. I’ve been using it for over a year, and the charging capacity is as good as new. They’re very long-lasting, making them comfortable for longer rides. Since they come in a pack of two, they are also value for money.

Battery weight: 1.7 Pounds

Battery capacity: 4 Amp Hours

Power: 18V

Motor

Motor

The motor in an electric scooter is important to give it power. If you feel your scooter has less power, changing the motor would be a great option (I did, too). The original scooter comes with a 250W motor. To give my scooter more power, I opted for a 500W motor, specifically a Diydeg DC Motor. This motor packs a punch with 500W rated power, 24V rated voltage, 28.5A rated current, and spins at 2800rpm.

The motor generates low heat and increases torque, allowing my scooter to easily climb hills. These advanced features make the motor more efficient and long-lasting, ensuring fast yet smooth rides.

Installing this motor was a breeze—I didn’t have to tweak much, not even the controller, since the 30 Amps controller has plenty of juice to handle the 500W motor.

Specifications:

Power: 500W

Voltage: 24V

Current: 28.5A

Rotating Speed: 2800RPM

Weight: 6.54 Pounds

Tires

Tires

After years of riding my scooter, I found that it was not very stable. The main reason behind this was its worn-out tires. What kind of tire your scooter has and what size it has can seriously affect its stability and speed. To tackle this problem, I replaced the regular tires with slightly bigger ones. Rutu 10 inch tires are the best purchase I’ve made so far, as the tires can function perfectly for my scooter’s 500W motor.

Installing these tires is a breeze, as you have an instruction copy for an easy process. This tire comes packed with anti-puncture features, having a thread pattern with blocks and stripes to provide excellent grip, even on bad weather days.

Specifications:

Tire Size: 10 Inches

Diameter: 10 Inches

Compatible with: 6″ Rim Hubs

Brakes

Brakes

Now, one more important aspect of modifying an electric scooter is its brake system. Often, you may see that your scooter is not stopping as it should. This is because there can be a problem with your brake system. Brakes are essential for safety and control. If you’re looking to step up your game, upgrading to disc brakes or hydraulic ones can amp up your electric scooter’s stopping power and control.

Since my scooter came with rear brakes, I didn’t experiment much with it. To be on the safer side, I went with DYISLAND Piston Hydraulic Disc Brake Set. While these are most commonly used for an e-bike, I’ve used them in my scooter, and they still give quite amazing results.

The brake holes are set to the standard size of 74 mm, so if the vehicle’s stock brake bracket matches up, you’re good to go. The rear brake, controlled by the right handle, has a hose that’s about 1850mm long and comes filled with eco-friendly mineral oil, so there’s no fussing with bleeding during use.

You also get a one-year warranty with it, so if there’s any manufacturing defect or the brake gets damaged, the company will either provide you with a new one or fix it for free.

Specifications:

Standard dimension: 2.91 Inches

Brake hose: 72.83 Inches

Cable length: 11.8 Inches

Accessories You Can Install Or Use

Now that you know the basic mods you can do to improve your electric scooter, let’s come to the part where you can add to it to make it look better and you as a rider look better. Here’s a list of accessories that I think you should own in any case.

Battery Charger

Battery Charger

Battery chargers are important to keep your electric scooter’s battery alive. Keeping that in mind, make sure that you get yourself the right and compatible battery charger. If you are not into upgrading the battery, it’s best to go for a LotFancy charger. This is only used for lead-acid batteries, so please, even mistakenly, don’t charge your lithium batteries.

We are still loving this charger for our electric scooters as this is a safe certified charger and is protected from overvoltage or short circuits. Whether or not your battery is charged will be shown through a light. This is an affordable option that will really help your ride’s longevity.

Throttle

Throttle

A throttle in an electric scooter is mainly used to control it. This is positioned on the side or middle of the handlebar and usually signals the motor and the speed controller on the optimal power you should use while riding.

I have the Razor Twist Grip Throttle, which fits perfectly with my scooter, comes with a 4-wire connector and long enough 50-inch cords, which made it easier for me to install. No rewiring was needed, and the installation process was pretty easy to understand.

Helmet

Helmet

Except four wheeler, be it any vehicle you ride, wearing a helmet is a must. Many states have even made it mandatory to wear a helmet and if the rule is not followed, one may have to pay a hefty fine. This is mainly done to ensure a rider’s safety. While there are many helmets you can go for, you can, without a second thought choose the OutdoorMaster Helmet.

I prefer this helmet over the others in the market as this is made with a tough outer material (ABS) and has an inner lining to provide extreme comfort and a snuggly fit while wearing. There may be a difference in size, so I suggest you go through the options to find the right size. Also, these come in different colours so, you can choose one according to your liking.

Handlebar Grips

Handlebar Grips

Handlebar grips are mostly used for better vehicle control. Additionally, they prevent your hand from slipping when you’re all sweaty on a long trip. Kick Push is one of the most recommended. I can confirm this because I am also one of its users.

Apart from being affordable, they are lightweight. Although made of plastic, they have foam to provide a comfortable hold while riding. These are designed for adults, so all the grown-ups can ride their scooters comfortably.

LED Lights

LED Lights

One more important and safe addition you can make to your electric scooter is installing a good-quality LED light. I have the Victoper Bike Light, which goes well with my scooter. I loved that the light is super bright, and the best part is that you can change to different modes based on the darkness you are driving in.

What I love the most about it is that it is waterproof, so I can rely on this light even if I have to ride during heavy rain. It’s an affordable option to purchase. And not only that, when camping with your friends, you can easily remove it and take the light with you for your protection.
